His Majesty the 4th King, Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck, was coronated on June 2nd, 1974. To commemorate this event, June 2nd is observed as a national holiday in Bhutan. This day is also celebrated as Social Forestry Day, during which everyone is encouraged to plant trees and participate in environmental activities. On June 2nd, all staff and trainees of TTI Samthang observed the day by planting trees around the institute campus.
